West of Scotland Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service
Palliative Care and Cystic Fibrosis
Throughout life with CF, there may be periods when physical symptoms such as pain or breathlessness become more complicated, or times you and your family/carers are in need of additional psychological support.
To help with this, Palliative Care - either at home, in Hospital, or linked with local Hospice teams - is a standard part of services for patients with more advanced CF and as such they may be involved at several points in your life. This could be as a one off review, for a period of a few weeks/months or even longer depending on your specific needs and situation.
The Palliative Care teams work closely with your CF specialists, and can provide advice on symptom control, psychological support for patients, families and carers, as well as access to Hospice services such as Day Hospice and Family Support if appropriate. They can also help with addressing your concerns about the future, and communicating your wishes about your care.
If you wish further information about what Palliative Care services are available locally and can do for you, please speak with either your GP or CF specialist team.
